Brookhaven officially opened the new Murphey Candler Park South Trail, which completes another park Bond project which voters approved in 2018.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mayor John Ernst and District 1 Councilwoman Linley Jones cut the ceremonial ribbon atop the new 30\u2019 foot bridge which connects the football&nbsp;and baseball fields on the east side of the creek with the softball fields on the west side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Featres of the South Trail include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The concrete portion of the trail&nbsp;1200\u2019 long, 10\u2019 wide, with a section of pervious concrete as required in the Nancy Creek buffer.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The trail was located and slightly&nbsp;raised above existing grade&nbsp;to avoid damage to tree roots.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>In addition to the 30\u2019 bridge, another 15\u2019 bridge was also installed at the lake emergency overflow outlet ditch.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The South Trail project will connect to the future MCP Phase 2 trail currently in design.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The South Trail improvements were designed by, Clark Patterson Lee (CPL), and constructed by Integrated Construction and Nobility (ICAN).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-jetpack-slideshow aligncenter\" data-effect=\"slide\"><div class=\"wp-block-jetpack-slideshow_container swiper-container\"><ul class=\"wp-block-jetpack-slideshow_swiper-wrapper swiper-wrapper\"><li class=\"wp-block-jetpack-slideshow_slide swiper-slide\"><figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"534\" height=\"400\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-block-jetpack-slideshow_image wp-image-29372\" data-id=\"29372\" src=\"https:\/\/thegeorgiasun.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Unknown-21.jpeg\"\/><\/figure><\/li><li class=\"wp-block-jetpack-slideshow_slide swiper-slide\"><figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"538\" height=\"403\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-block-jetpack-slideshow_image wp-image-29373\" data-id=\"29373\" src=\"https:\/\/thegeorgiasun.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Unknown-20.jpeg\"\/><\/figure><\/li><\/ul><a class=\"wp-block-jetpack-slideshow_button-prev swiper-button-prev swiper-button-white\" role=\"button\"><\/a><a class=\"wp-block-jetpack-slideshow_button-next swiper-button-next swiper-button-white\" role=\"button\"><\/a><a aria-label=\"Pause Slideshow\" class=\"wp-block-jetpack-slideshow_button-pause\" role=\"button\"><\/a><div class=\"wp-block-jetpack-slideshow_pagination swiper-pagination swiper-pagination-white\"><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis new bridge and path are part of the park plan vision to provide a quick and logical route for families to get from one&nbsp;side of the ballpark to the other,\u201d&nbsp;Councilwoman&nbsp;Jones said.&nbsp;\u201cThe new bridge also provides another great view of the creek.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis bucolic path in the wooded area along the stream not only connects all of the ballfields together for a better recreational experience,\u00a0but it will also provide the community with access to the rest of Murphey Candler Park, once the rest of the trail system is complete and connected to this section \u201d said Mayor Ernst.<\/p>\n\n\n\n[mailerlite_form form_id=10]\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BROOKHAVEN &#8212;
