In Georgia, the state department of public health is following that guidance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>First thing&#8217;s first:<\/strong> The guidance only applies to the Pfizer vaccine. If you got the Moderna or Johnson &amp; Johnson vaccine, the FDA has not issued any recommendations yet for boosters of those vaccines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is a booster?<\/strong>: In the case of coronavirus vaccine, the booster shot would be a third dose that would come several months after you have completed the initial two-dose vaccination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Who should get a booster shot?:<\/strong> According to the CDC guidance, the following groups should receive the booster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>People 65 years and older and residents in long-term care settings\u00a0should\u00a0receive a booster shot of Pfizer-BioNTech\u2019s COVID-19 vaccine at least 6 months after their Pfizer-BioNTech primary series \u202f\u00a0<\/li><li>People aged 50\u201364 years with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/need-extra-precautions\/people-with-medical-conditions.html\">underlying medical conditions<\/a>\u00a0should\u00a0receive a booster shot of Pfizer-BioNTech\u2019s COVID-19 vaccine at<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>least 6 months after their Pfizer-BioNTech primary series<\/li><li>People aged 18\u201349 years with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/need-extra-precautions\/people-with-medical-conditions.html\">underlying medical conditions<\/a>\u00a0may\u00a0receive a booster shot of Pfizer-BioNTech\u2019s COVID-19 vaccine at least 6 months after their Pfizer-BioNTech primary series, based on their individual benefits and risks<\/li><li>People aged 18-64 years who are at increased risk for COVID-19 exposure and transmission because of occupational or institutional setting\u00a0may\u00a0receive a booster shot of Pfizer-BioNTech\u2019s COVID-19 vaccine at least 6 months after their Pfizer-BioNTech primary series, based on their individual benefits and risks.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>When will it be available?:<\/strong> The Georgia Department of Public Health will begin giving booster doses at health department vaccination locations on Monday, Sept. 27.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n[mailerlite_form form_id=9]\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Gist: The CDC has formally made its recommendations on the booster shots of the COVID-19 vaccines.
