The combined size of the properties at 4809 and 4819 Vermack Road, is 9.29 acres and includes an open field and a wooded area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen I heard these parcels were available, I saw the opportunity to preserve this greenspace,\u201d said Dunwoody Mayor Lynn Deutsch. \u201cI look forward to working with the community to create something fabulous.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following Monday night\u2019s vote to purchase the land, the city begins 60 days of due diligence with the seller before the $5.6 million purchase becomes final. The process includes an environmental study, appraisal and title research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLand of this size doesn\u2019t come available very often in Dunwoody,\u201d said Dunwoody City Manager Eric Linton. \u201cThis is a generational move by Council Members to support the future park needs of this community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Public Facilities Authority also unanimously <a href=\"https:\/\/thegeorgiasun.com\/2018\/06\/19\/georgia-approves-funding-for-19-transportation-projects-will-traffic-in-your-area-improve\/\">approved financing for the purchase using the Georgia<\/a> Municipal Association\u2019s Bricks and Mortar Installment Sale Agreement Financing Program. This lease-to-purchase financing structure is the same one used for the purchase of Dunwoody City Hall in 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re always looking for opportunities to chip away at Dunwoody\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/thegeorgiasun.com\/2019\/12\/10\/dunwoody-buys-land-from-waterford-swim-and-racquet-club-for-park-space\/\">land deficit for parks,\u201d said Dunwoody Parks<\/a> and Recreation Director Brent Walker. \u201cThere is a lot of potential with this property for nature <a href=\"https:\/\/thegeorgiasun.com\/2018\/05\/11\/new-trails-open-at-lanierland-park-and-matt-community-park-in-forsyth-county\/\">trails and open<\/a> play areas.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dunwoody\u2019s Parks Master Plan, last updated in 2017, cited the availability of property for new parkland as a need for the city and recommended making land preservation and acquisition a priority for the City.
