{"id":223303,"date":"2025-06-09T16:11:39","date_gmt":"2025-06-09T20:11:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thegeorgiasun.com\/?p=223303"},"modified":"2025-06-09T16:11:44","modified_gmt":"2025-06-09T20:11:44","slug":"the-price-of-peace-parents-say-a-quiet-day-is-worth-nearly-4k","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thegeorgiasun.com\/?p=223303","title":{"rendered":"The Price of Peace: Parents Say a Quiet Day Is Worth Nearly $4K"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The average American would pay $2,521 for a day of peace and quiet \u2014 while parents would pay $1,147 more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s according to a new survey of 2,000 Americans (30% of whom are parents), which explored the importance of quality time to recharge and the barriers to getting enough of it.<br>Results showed the average respondent only gets 9.5 hours per month to themselves with the biggest barriers being family obligations (50%), work commitments (32%) and financial constraints (24%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Social obligations (22%) and guilt for finally getting free time (13%) were also listed as reasons respondents don\u2019t get the alone time they crave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A little over half of respondents (53%) said they need more alone time than they\u2019re currently getting. And the lengths respondents said they\u2019ll go to were surprising.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nearly 38% of respondents admit to lying to a partner, friends or family in order to get some time to themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The most common lie shared among participants was \u201cI\u2019m not feeling well\u201d (54%), followed by \u201cI have a lot of work to do\u201d (40%), \u201cI have a headache\u201d (33%), \u201cI have an appointment\u201d (33%) and \u201cMy phone\u2019s about to die, so I can\u2019t talk\u201d (32%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The survey, conducted by Talker Research on behalf of Apple Vacations (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.applevacations.com\">https:\/\/www.applevacations.com<\/a>), pinpointed the dollar amount people attribute to certain elements of relaxation and found the average parent polled values a lazy morning to themselves at $325.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s no wonder then that people would be willing to pay an average of $339.8 for just one extra hour of sleep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And the feeling extends to vacations, with 40% of respondents saying they\u2019ve booked a trip specifically for peace and quiet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn a world where silence feels like a luxury, it\u2019s clear people aren\u2019t just craving quiet,\u201d said Dana Studebaker, Vice President of Marketing, Consumer Brands, Apple Vacations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re willing to invest in it. Everyone deserves moments that are truly their own.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How would respondents spend this precious, uninterrupted time alone?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One in six said they\u2019d be happy doing anything as long as it wasn\u2019t a chore or obligation. And one in eight said they\u2019d want to binge TV or movies (13%) or spend the day at the beach (12%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interestingly, two-thirds agreed (66%) that visiting family does not count as a restful vacation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen people are willing to spend hundreds \u2014 or even thousands \u2014 just for a little peace and quiet, it says a lot about how rare true rest has become,\u201d added Michael Lowery, Head of Global Consumer Brands, Apple Vacations. \u201cSometimes the most valuable thing you can give yourself is time without expectation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n[mailerlite_form form_id=32]\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The average American would pay $2,521 for a day of peace and quiet \u2014 while parents would pay $1,147 more.
