Barrow County’s annual \u201cShop with a Hero\u201d event will take on a new meaning this year as the event pays tribute to School Resource Officers. The High School Resource Officers cars will lead this year’s processional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
You may remember it was a school resource officer who was instrumental in ending the school shooting at Apalachee High School<\/a> earlier this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n What\u2019s Happening:<\/strong> The event, which pairs children and families in need with local heroes for a memorable day of shopping and bonding, will begin on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 8 a.m., at the Winder Community Center at 113 East Athens<\/a> Street. A procession, led by the High School Resource Officer in their custom-designed vehicle, will move through Winder with lights and sirens, concluding at Walmart, 440 Atlanta<\/a> Highway. Santa will join the event to meet children and families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n How the Community is Involved:<\/strong> The event, organized by local law enforcement, firefighters, and community leaders, pairs children in need with local heroes. Generous contributions from businesses, organizations, and residents ensure that each child receives a gift card to shop for holiday presents alongside their mentors in uniform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
