(The Center Square) \u2013 U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., has been appointed to lead a subcommittee dedicated to working with President-elect Donald Trump\u2019s new Department of Government Efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Known as a Republican firebrand and close ally of Trump, Greene has already set her sights on rooting out \u201cevery penny of waste and abuse.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe\u2019ll be looking at everything from government-funded media programs like NPR that spread nothing but Democrat propaganda, we\u2019ll be going into grant programs that fund things like sex apps in Malaysia, toilets in Africa,\u201d she said on a media appearance<\/a> Sunday morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The subcommittee will be under the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, which is chaired by U.S. Rep. James Comer, R-Ky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWe want to make the government more efficient,\u201d Comer said on a media appearance<\/a>. \u201cWe want to work for the taxpayers, not the bureaucrats. We hate the deep state, we\u2019ve dealt with the deep state, we\u2019ve fought the deep state.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n He added that Republicans are excited to implement the recommendations of DOGE, which, as an advisory committee, will have to work with Trump and Congress to change policies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWhat Trump has … are willing partners to make government more efficient,\u201d Comer said of Congress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Elon Musk<\/a>, CEO of X and Tesla Motors, and Vivek Ramaswamy are currently heading up DOGE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cLooking forward to working together with Congress,\u201d Ramaswamy said on social media of Greene\u2019s appointment<\/a>. \u201cProper oversight of agencies and public transparency are critical.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n DOGE has made it a key part of its plan to address the national debt of $36 trillion. That is $273,000 owed per taxpayer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThis trend must be reversed, and we must balance the budget,\u201d DOGE posted<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n For her part, Greene has promised<\/a> to \u201cdrain the swamp,\u201d stating that<\/a> \u201cnothing is off the table\u201d when it comes to holding government agencies like the Pentagon accountable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cOur government should steward every single cent of your hard-earned money,\u201d Greene said. \u201cThe DOGE subcommittee will expose the waste and bring truth and transparency to the American people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Bureaucrats and independent contractors will also be on the chopping block, in what Greene called<\/a> a \u201conce-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make real transformational change to government to benefit the American people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIn the private sector, if you\u2019re not doing a good job, you get fired,\u201d she said on social media<\/a>. \u201cBut for some reason, in government, bad employees \u2013 whether they\u2019re failing to do the job they were hired to do or working in roles that are no longer needed \u2013 never get fired. This is incredibly unfair to the hard-working taxpayers of our country, and it\u2019s about to change.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Recently, an audit of the IRS<\/a> found that its employees and contractors owe millions in taxes, all while the agency warned thousands of taxpayers<\/a> that they could face jail time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe same unelected IRS government employees and contractors, who owe $50 million in unpaid taxes, would throw Americans in jail for not paying their taxes,\u201d Greene said of the audit<\/a>. \u201cTime to hold them all accountable.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Greene also addressed Democrats’ accusations that the subcommittee will go after programs like Social Security<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
