The Bibb County Sheriff\u2019s Office, Macon-Bibb County Fire Department, and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources responded to the scene following reports of a possible drowning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Incident Details<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Witnesses reported that a man and several children were swimming in the river when some of the children began to struggle. The man, later identified as 33-year-old Billy Scott Carter, swam out to assist the children, successfully bringing them to safety, but he then went missing. The incident was promptly reported to the Macon-Bibb E-911 Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Macon-Bibb Fire Department launched a search and rescue operation, locating Carter shortly before 1:27 p.m. Despite their efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner Luanne Stone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All the children involved were accounted for and unharmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Bibb County Sheriff\u2019s Office is requesting that anyone with information about this incident contact them at 478-751-7500.<\/p>\n\n\n\n[mailerlite_form form_id=23]\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A man drowned while rescuing children at the Ocmulgee River Riverwalk on Friday afternoon.
