SYLVESTER — A 19-year-old was shot and killed by a Georgia Police Officer after a series of events that started with a traffic stop that turned into a chase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, preliminary information indicates that at about 2:30 a.m., a Sylvester Police Officer was attempting to conduct a traffic stop in Sylvester. A brief car chase ensued with the subject fleeing the scene on foot.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n
About three hours later, multiple residents called 911 describing a suspicious person that matched the description of the subject from the earlier car chase in the area of where the subject fled on foot.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n
A Sylvester Police Officer encountered the man, later identified as 19-year-old Jakerion Shmoud Jackson. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the GBI, during the encounter, the officer shot Jackson. Jackson was transported\u00a0to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A GBI Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy on Jackson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
No officers were injured in this incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The GBI will conduct its independent investigation. Once complete, it will be turned over to the Tift Judicial District Attorney\u2019s Office for review.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
