{"id":18174,"date":"2020-08-23T18:16:42","date_gmt":"2020-08-23T22:16:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thegeorgiasun.com\/?p=18174"},"modified":"2020-08-23T18:16:47","modified_gmt":"2020-08-23T22:16:47","slug":"georgias-poorest-town-revealed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thegeorgiasun.com\/?p=18174","title":{"rendered":"Georgia&#8217;s poorest town revealed"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>(The Center Square) \u2013 Fort Valley was ranked the poorest town in Georgia in<strong>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/247wallst.com\/special-report\/2020\/06\/17\/poorest-town-in-every-state-6\/\">a 24\/7 Wall St. analysis<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;examining small, lower-income communities where households earn much less than the nation\u2019s median annual household income.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With a population of 8,740, Fort Valley recorded a median home value of $78,700, based on the U.S. Census Bureau\u2019s 2018 American Community Survey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fort Valley\u2019s poverty rate was pegged at 38.3 percent, and its median annual household income came in at $23,542.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A lower level of education is one characteristic residents of the poorest towns have in common, according to the analysis. The share of adults with four-year degrees averages less than 20 percent in most of the towns in the ranking, the study concluded, while nationwide the percentage with bachelor\u2019s degrees is 31.5 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The analysis considered only towns with populations of 1,000 to 25,000 residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8212;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Poorest Towns by State<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure
