We are not bound by outdated media models, geographic silos, or corporate priorities that put profit ahead of public understanding.

We exist to inform, connect, and strengthen communities through journalism designed for today.

Local and Statewide — Without Artificial Limits

Georgia is interconnected, and our coverage reflects that.

The Georgia Sun reports on local stories from communities across the state while also covering statewide issues that affect Georgians everywhere. We are not confined to a single city, county, ZIP code, or broadcast market.

This allows us to cover Georgia as it actually functions — a collection of local communities shaped by statewide decisions.

Independent by Choice

The Georgia Sun is independently owned and operated.

We are not part of a national media chain. We are not owned by a hedge fund. We are not embedded in political or corporate power structures that influence what gets covered.

Our independence allows us to focus on the public interest and make editorial decisions based on relevance, accuracy, and impact — not outside pressure.

No Paywalls

Access to news should not depend on the ability to pay.

The Georgia Sun does not place paywalls between readers and important information about their communities or their state. Our journalism is free to read and free to share, because informed communities are better equipped to make decisions.

Coverage That Reflects Real Life

We are not limited to a narrow definition of what “counts” as news.

The Georgia Sun covers public policy and public safety, but also the everyday issues that shape life in Georgia — housing, schools, transportation, health, faith, culture, technology, and the changes happening in neighborhoods across the state.

We are tapped into what people across the street and across the state are actually talking about and interested in and our coverage choices reflect that.

Our focus is relevance. If it affects how people live and understand their communities, it matters.

Digital-Native, Not Digitally Adapted

The Georgia Sun has always been digital.

We did not convert from print or broadcast, and we are not preserving legacy platforms out of habit. Our reporting, publishing, and distribution are built for how people consume news today — quickly, flexibly, and across multiple devices.

That foundation allows us to evolve without being tethered to practices that may have been a good idea 40 years ago, but don’t work in today’s world.

Flexible and Responsive Journalism

There is no single format that fits every story.

Sometimes the news requires speed. Sometimes it requires depth. Sometimes it requires clarity above all else. We choose the approach that best serves the reader and the moment.

Our priority is delivering accurate, timely information in the way that makes the most sense — not protecting a format or tradition.

Why The Georgia Sun Exists

Local journalism in Georgia is shrinking. Newsrooms are closing. Coverage gaps are widening.

The Georgia Sun was created to meet that challenge by building a new model of local news — one that is independent, accessible, statewide in reach, and rooted in relevance.

We are the future of local news in Georgia because we were built for the present — and designed to grow with it.

In short, we do things a little different here, but we think our coverage, and the state as a whole, will be better for it.

Stay Informed

If you’re interested in our brand of news, if you want to be informed without the usual strings attached, sign up for one of our email newsletters.
