{"id":10501,"date":"2019-08-02T13:15:51","date_gmt":"2019-08-02T17:15:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thegeorgiasun.com\/?p=10501"},"modified":"2019-08-06T20:40:55","modified_gmt":"2019-08-07T00:40:55","slug":"dekalb-police-officer-shot-in-line-of-duty-suspect-still-at-large","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thegeorgiasun.com\/crime\/dekalb-police-officer-shot-in-line-of-duty-suspect-still-at-large\/","title":{"rendered":"DeKalb police officer shot in line of duty, suspect still at large"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>LITHONIA &#8212; A DeKalb County Police officer was hospitalized after a shootout with a suspect early Thursday morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the GBI, preliminary information indicates that at about 12:30 a.m., the DeKalb County Police responded to a person shot call on Hodgdon Corners Cove in Lithonia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Police say as officers approached the residence, a subject identified as Otis Dennis Walker, Jr., began firing at the officers. The officers exchanged gunfire with Walker. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Officer Derek Nunn was shot and transported to a local hospital. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DeKalb SWAT entered the residence and discovered Walker was not present. Police also discovered a deceased female inside the residence. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Walker\u2019s current whereabouts are unknown. DeKalb County Police have obtained an arrest warrant for Walker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The GBI will continue its independent investigation.
