In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, the City of Savannah is adjusting its waste management services to prioritize storm debris removal. The City’s Sanitation Department has announced the suspension of all recycling services starting Monday, Sept. 30. This change will remain in effect until further notice, as efforts shift toward clearing debris across the area.

The Details: Residents should use their recycling carts for garbage overflow, placing them alongside regular garbage carts at the curb for collection. Regular residential refuse collection will continue without disruption. For those able to hold onto their recyclables, the City encourages waiting until recycling services resume. Alternatively, residents can use single-stream recycling drop-off facilities.

Debris Removal: To address the widespread damage left by Hurricane Helene, Savannah has secured a contractor to begin debris removal operations the week of Sept. 30. Given the scale of the cleanup, officials estimate that these efforts will continue for several weeks.

Residents who wish to manage their own debris disposal have the option to bring storm-related waste to local facilities. The Dean Forest Road Landfill and the Bacon Park Convenience Center are both operating during regular hours.

What’s Next: The City will release further details on debris collection in the coming days. Residents are advised to remain patient as the cleanup progresses and to stay informed through updates from the City’s official communication channels.
