The Alabama Crimson Tide is losing a member of its coaching staff. The Atlanta Falcons are poaching Dave Huxtable and hiring him to help out with the defense.

The Atlanta Falcons are slowly putting together their defensive coaching staff for next season.

According to FootballScoop, the Falcons are hiring longtime assistant and Alabama analyst Dave Huxtable to the coaching staff.

Huxtable, 66, has coached in the college ranks for 40 years but is now making the jump to the pros.

While Huxtable spent the past two years in Tuscaloosa as a defensive analyst on Nick Saban’s staff, he has been all over the map. Huxtable previously coached at Iowa State, Western Kentucky, East Carolina, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, UCF, Wisconsin, Pittsburgh, NC State and Texas.

With the retirement of longtime coordinator Dean Pees and departure of several assistants, the Falcons have needed to pick up the pieces and reshuffle.

While hiring Ryan Nielsen to be the team’s defensive coordinator and Jerry Gray to be the team’s assistant head coach, the leadership is there at the top. Adding an experienced mind like Huxtable’s could bring a huge benefit to the staff and provide a unique voice that may not already be there.

His experience at Alabama over the past two years should also put Crimson Tide players on the Falcons‘ radar for this year’s draft, which is scheduled for Thursday, April 27.
