Anticipated freezing weather prompts DeKalb warming centers to open

DeKalb County will open four warming centers for residents to use on Friday, Feb. 3 and Saturday, Feb. 4, beginning at 8 p.m.

Temperatures in the area are expected to dip below freezing Friday night and will be just above freezing on Saturday night.

The four centers are Fire Station 3, located at 100 N. Clarendon Avenue in Avondale Estates; Fire Station 4, located at 4540 Flakes Mill Road in Ellenwood; Fire Station 6, located at 2342 Flat Shoals Road in Atlanta; and North DeKalb Senior Center, located at 3393 Malone Drive in Chamblee.

DeKalb County has partnered with New Life Church and Community Ministries to provide additional warming centers in the county.

These centers are being opened in response to the expected cold weather, and residents are encouraged to take advantage of the resources available to them.

To ensure the safety of all those who use the warming centers, the county’s COVID-19 protocols must be followed. This includes wearing a mask, social distancing, and undergoing a temperature check.

For more information about the warming centers offered by DeKalb County and its community partners, residents can visit www.dekalbcountyga.gov/weather. The county is committed to providing safe and warm places for its residents during these cold days.
