Father and daughter die in Thanksgiving Day murder-suicide

A father and daughter are dead after Clayton County police say the man shot and killed his daughter before killing himself following a police chase.

Clayton County Police Officers were asked by Henry County Police Department to perform a welfare check involving the kidnapping of two juveniles after a domestic dispute.

Officers did not make contact with anyone at that location.

The Jonesboro Police Department located the vehicle and asked for assistance from the Clayton County Police Department.

A vehicle pursuit occurred where the suspect, Lionel Edwards, led the officers into a cul-de-sac in the 8000 block of South Bay Court in Riverdale.

As officers approached the vehicle on foot, the suspect, Lionel Edwards took off and hit a bush which forced the vehicle to stop.

Officers then heard multiple shot coming from inside the vehicle.

Officers rushed to the vehicle to find a juvenile in the passenger seat shot multiple times. Officers attempted life-saving measures with no success.

The girl died from her injuries. The suspect, Lionel Edwards, suffered one self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Edwards was taken to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.
