Milton to honor departing mayor at 15th year event

MILTON — On Dec. 1, 2006, the City of Milton was born.

On Dec. 1, 2021, the city will be celebrating its 15th birthday – as well as the man who has been Milton’s mayor since the beginning.

This special event is for those involved in making Milton the great city that it is today. Topping that list is citizens who have been central to every decision and every step in Milton’s history.

The City has evolved from a relatively bare-bones operation working out of non-descript rented office suites to become a service-focused, citizen-driven government based in fully functional, unique spaces like City Hall and the Public Safety Complex.

As part of its birthday celebration, the city will honor founding mayor Joe Lockwood. First voted in prior to the City’s incorporation, he has been re-elected three times since and earned a reputation as a patient listener, consensus builder, responsive public servant, and leader who cares deeply about Milton and puts citizens first.

Lockwood will be an important part of the upcoming festivities ahead of his departure from office early this January.

The Dec. 1 event will start at 6:30 p.m. and run until approximately 8:30 p.m.

Attendees will gather for appetizers and drinks. The event will also feature remarks from the leaders who have helped shape Milton, including Mayor Lockwood.
