Two arrested in slaying of Hazlehurst man

HAZLEHURST — 36-year-old Hazlehurst man was shot to death last week. Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the slaying.

Chief Ken Williams reports that, on Wednesday, May 12, at about 9:20 p.m., the Hazlehurst Police Department responded to the intersection of Hazel Street and Girtman Street in reference to gun shots being fired.

Upon arrival, officers found Kelsi Burns suffering from gun shots wounds. Burns was transported to Jeff Davis Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

“The investigation revealed that Burns had an altercation with Steven Johnson, age 22 of Hazlehurst, that resulted in Johnson shooting Burns,” Williams said.

Johnson was arrested and charged with the following charges: Murder and Aggravated Assault. Dedra Robinson, age 27 of Hazlehurst, was also charged in Burns’ death. Robinson was charged with: Party to the crime of Murder and Party to the crime of Aggravated Assault. Both Johnson and Robinson were booked into the Jeff Davis County Detention Center.
