JONESBORO — A 36-year-old Stone Mountain woman was shot by a Clayton County Deputy Saturday evening while the deputy was responding to a “shots fired” call at a Jonesboro residence.

According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, a Clayton County Sheriff’s deputy arrived on the scene first and encountered a woman, later identified as Twanetta Griffey. During the encounter, the deputy shot Griffey, who was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. GBI officials say a gun was located in close proximity to Griffey.

The deputy was not injured during the incident.

The Clayton County Police Department is currently investigating a homicide and shooting that occurred a few doors away from where Griffey was shot. GBI officials say both incidents appear to be related.

The GBI will continue its independent investigation of the officer involved shooting. Upon completion, it will be submitted to the Clayton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
