Explosion at Woodstock retirement home caused by construction accident

Fire and rescue crews are on the scene at a retirement home in Woodstock after an explosion in the basement caused a partial building collapse.

According to fire and police officials, at least one person has been taken to the hospital to check for injuries.

The explosion occurred at The Holbrook, a retirement community on Highway 92 in Woodstock that is still under construction. Construction company officials say the explosion was a construction accident caused by purging gas lines.

According to a spokesperson for the Holbrook, the building is still under construction and did not have any residents yet.

Atlanta Gas Light has released the following statement on the incident:

“Atlanta Gas Light has been notified of an incident near Highway 92 in Woodstock. Ensuring the safety of every family we serve is our highest priority, and we are working with local authorities to determine the nature of the incident and¬†evaluate if there are any immediate impacts to customers, the community or the safety and security of our infrastructure. We will continue to keep our customers and community informed as the situation progresses.”
