Today was Georgia's deadliest day for coronavirus

Tuesday marked Georgia’s single deadliest day for coronavirus since the pandemic began. The state reported 137 new deaths Tuesday. Prior to Tuesday, the day with the highest number of deaths reported on a single day was May 21, when 90 deaths were reported.

The increase in deaths coincides with increases in cases and hospitalizations.

On May 21, the state was averaging 36.7 deaths per day from coronavirus. Today, Georgia is averaging 63 COVID-19 deaths per day.

The total number of deaths statewide is now 4,351. There have been 21,031 hospitalizations and 3,832 ICU admissions. The total number of confirmed cases statewide is 222,588.

The youngest person to die in Georgia was a 7-year-old boy from Chatham County with no underlying conditions.
