High-speed chase ends in officer involved shooting

FORT VALLEY — A high-speed chase in Crawford County ended in shots being fired and a suspect being shot and killed by Crawford County deputies.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been asked by the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office to conduct an officer involved shooting investigation.

According to the GBI, preliminary information indicates that at 6:18 p.m., the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched and responded to a domestic dispute at a home on Richardson Mill Road in Fort Valley. There, 33-year-old Jamie Lamar Darley was reportedly brandishing a firearm and threatening occupants at the residence.

Before Crawford County deputies’ arrival at the residence, Darley left the residence in a white Chevrolet truck. After deputies arrived and started conducting their investigation, an occupant at the residence received information that Darley was on Blasingame Road in Crawford County. Deputies traveled to the area and spotted the white Chevrolet truck driven by Darley and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. Officers say a high-speed pursuit took place reaching speeds over 100 miles per hour.

The pursuit ended in the yard of the residence on Richardson Mill Road.

According to the GBI, Darley exited the truck holding a silver firearm in his hand, pointed the firearm at the deputies and fired at least one shot. One Crawford County deputy returned fire, striking Darley.

Deputies rendered aid to Darley until EMS arrived. Darley was transported by ambulance to Navicent Health Hospital in Macon, where he was pronounced dead. The GBI will perform an autopsy on Darley, scheduled for Tuesday, April 28.

No officers were injured during this incident.

The GBI will continue its independent investigation of the officer involved shooting. Upon completion of the investigation, it will be turned over to the Bibb Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review.
