Albany residents can now share their Ring videos with the police department

ALBANY — The Albany Police Department has joined Neighbors by Ring, allowing the department to have a virtual neighborhood watch.

The Neighbors App by Ring is a free app designed to help communities connect and stay informed about what’s going on around them — whether they own a Ring device or not. Millions of users are working together to make neighborhoods safer for their families, friends and neighbors.

The app has a video request tool which allows Ring users to easily share video recordings with law enforcement if they choose to help local law enforcement with active investigations.

Local law enforcement officials are able to ask for assistance from their community in an investigation by making a video request through Ring.

When they do so, Ring users retain absolute control to determine whether they may have potentially relevant videos, whether or not they elect to share any videos, or opt out of future requests. Ring gives local law enforcement no visibility into those determinations.
