GBI investigates death of Georgia Southern Football player

STATESBORO – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into the death of a Georgia Southern University football player who died Monday in his dorm room.

On Monday, October 21, the GBI received a request for assistance from the Georgia Southern Police Department regarding the death of a Georgia Southern University student and football player that occurred on Georgia Southern Property in Statesboro..   

Preliminary information indicates that at 6 p.m., 18-year-old Jordan Wiggins was found unresponsive in his dormitory room located on Chandler Road. He was transported to East Georgia Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

At this point in the investigation, no foul play is suspected. An autopsy was performed on Tuesday, October 22, to determine the cause and manner of death. The results of the autopsy are pending.

The GBI is conducting the investigation in collaboration with the Georgia Southern Police Department. Anyone with information is urged to contact the GBI Statesboro office at 912-871-1121.
