DeKalb police officer shot in line of duty, suspect still at large

LITHONIA — A DeKalb County Police officer was hospitalized after a shootout with a suspect early Thursday morning.

According to the GBI, preliminary information indicates that at about 12:30 a.m., the DeKalb County Police responded to a person shot call on Hodgdon Corners Cove in Lithonia.

Police say as officers approached the residence, a subject identified as Otis Dennis Walker, Jr., began firing at the officers. The officers exchanged gunfire with Walker.

Officer Derek Nunn was shot and transported to a local hospital.

DeKalb SWAT entered the residence and discovered Walker was not present. Police also discovered a deceased female inside the residence.

Walker’s current whereabouts are unknown. DeKalb County Police have obtained an arrest warrant for Walker.

The GBI will continue its independent investigation. Once complete, it will be turned over to the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office for review.
