Man who defrauded Alpharetta woman of $80,000 after dating site romance arrested

FRANKLIN, TENNESSEE — Late Tuesday evening, police arrested a man accused of defrauding an Alpharetta woman he met on an online dating site.

John Martin Hill was arrested in Franklin, Tennessee.  He was booked into the Williamson County Jail at about 10 p.m. on an outstanding warrant from the Gwinnett County Police Department.

The victim reported to the Gwinnett County Police Department that she met Hill on Match.com.

They interacted on March 27 and met the same day. According to police, the victim had been told Hill was a millionaire.

During their short romance, police say Hill convinced the woman to buy a house together.

The couple went house-hunting and selected a home they were interested in. Within just a week of knowing one another, the couple agreed to get married.

Police say the woman gave Hill more than $80,000 to use toward the purchase of a house and furniture. Following the exchange of money, the suspect ceased all contact.

Since the original story was published, police say they heard from a few other women who said that they were either in a relationship with Hill or knew someone who was romantically involved with him.
