Fire that killed more than 8,500 chickens in Fannin County ruled arson

MCCAYSVILLE — A fire at a chicken house in Fannin County has been ruled arson by the state fire commissioner’s office.

About 8,500 chickens were killed in the fire that occurred Monday morning, according to fire investigators.

The chicken house was located on Old Silver Mine Road in McCaysville. One chicken house was totally destroyed and the adjacent house is lightly damaged,” said Safety Fire Commissioner Jim Beck.

The houses were constructed in 1985 and each is 15,200 Square feet.

Beck is asking anyone with information about this fire to call the Arson Hotline at 1‐800‐282‐5804.

Rewards of up to $10,000 are offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction. Calls are taken 24 hours a day and callers can choose to remain anonymous.
