Factory Atlanta will host Art Crush this weekend

BURNAWAY, the Voice of Art in the South, is hosting its 10 year anniversary celebration and annual fundraiser Art Crushon Saturday, Feb. 16, 2019, from 7:30-10 p.m., with a VIP preview for Host Committee and VIP ticket holders starting at 6 p.m. The evening’s festivities will take place at the recently opened Factory Atlanta in Chamblee, a trending, rapidly growing neighborhood just steps from Atlanta’s multicultural nexus Buford Highway. The unique location has inspired this year’s theme: Year of the Pig, which draws connections between the 2019 Lunar New Year and one of the South’s most beloved cultural exports, barbeque, as a way of celebrating intersections between immigrant cultures and the American South.

The Honorary Chair for the event is artist and Chamblee resident Jiha Moon, one of the most celebrated and widely known contemporary artists working in Atlanta today, who has been an avid supporter of BURNAWAY. Serving as emcees for the evening will be drag performers and musicians Taylor Alxndr and Mystery Meat.  During the evening guests will enjoy delicious dishes from Bantam & Biddy inspired by Lunar New Year festivities and the Year of the Pig. Signature cocktails for the party will be crafted by mixologist Navarro Carr of the Sound Table.

Specializing in international vintage funk and dance music, DJ Yoon Nam, will provide the soundtrack to the evening. To commemorate their experience, guests are encouraged to bring home a piece of art at a variety of price points, with opportunities to purchase pieces from exciting emerging and established talent from throughout the Southeast during a silent auction, as well as during a live auction of bespoke art-filled experiences.

Auction experiences range from a custom dinner party and bourbon tasting with artist Michi Meko to a private viewing of highlights from the High Museum’s photography collection with curator Greg Harris and artist Jill Frank followed by a personal beer tasting at Monday Night Brewing.

Live printmaking of exclusive limited-edition prints for Art Crush 2019 will be taking place, and guests can take in special installations by Sonya Yong James, Jordan Stubbs, Jane Garver Foley, and Rachel Ballard. The party will continue after hours at Karaoke Medley 2 at 7130 Buford Highway.

Tickets for Art Crush are available for general admission at $40, Host Committee for $175-$350 and Table Sponsorships (including VIP tickets for 8 guests) for $1,200. Host Committee members and VIP ticket holders will enjoy an evening of unlimited beverages, access to the private VIP lounge and a curator-led auction preview by BURNAWAY’s new Director Erin Jane Nelson.

This year’s sponsors to date include: Cathead Vodka, Chattanooga Whiskey, Cannonborough Soda, Binders Art Supplies and Frames, Orpheus Brewing, Monday Night Brewing, Myott Studios + Artifacts, Howard Finster’s Paradise Garden, MudFire, Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles Magazine, Bantam + Biddy, Kibbee Gallery, Thomas Preston Real Estate, and Atlanta Printmakers Studio.

“Every year this event grows and evolves into a more dynamic and immersive artistic experience,” says Erin Jane Nelson, Executive Director of BURNAWAY. “We’re thrilled for this year’s Art Crush to be in conjunction with the celebration of not only the Lunar New Year, but also the impact that BURNAWAY has made over the past ten years in advocating for and being a resource for Southern artists.

“As we celebrate the incredible talent, evolution and diversity of artists across the Southeast, we look forward to having our festivities adjacent to the cultural crossroads of Buford Highway and its surrounding neighborhoods where an incredible mix of cuisines, cultures and art are being brought together.  We anticipate seeing how BURNAWAY and Southern art grow and evolve for decades to come.”
