Johns Creek police officers shoot suspect who drove into patrol car

On Sunday, December 23, 2018, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was asked by the Johns Creek Police Department to investigate an officer involved shooting.

According to the GBI, preliminary information indicates that early Sunday at about 4:08 a.m., Johns Creek police officers attempted to make a traffic stop on a Ford Fusion for failure to maintain lane. The Ford Fusion initially failed to stop for the officers and vehicle pursuit ensued.

The Fusion pulled into a shopping center parking lot located at 5950 State Bridge Road. According to the GBI, as the officers approached the vehicle, the vehicle drove in reverse, striking the patrol vehicle. The officers discharged their weapons towards the vehicle.

The vehicle then drove away through the parking lot. The officers returned to their patrol vehicle and pursued the Ford. The driver, identified as 25-year-old Antonio Tinajero exited the vehicle on foot and was subsequently taken into custody in the shopping center parking lot.

Tinajero was transported to North Fulton Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and after being released was taken into custody by the Johns Creek Police Department.

No officers were injured during the incident.

The GBI will conduct its independent investigation. Once complete, it will be turned over to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
