Police: Don't leave valuables in your car when you go to the gym

Gwinnett County Police are reminding residents not to leave valuable items in their cars when visiting the gym.

The reminder comes on the heels of 11 car break-ins that occurred on July 18 and 19. While patrons were inside three Gwinnett County gyms, police say thieves broke into their cars and stole credit cards and other valuables.

The break-ins happened at the LA Fitness locations on Stone Mountain Highway in Stone Mountain and Duluth Highway in Lawrenceville and the Planet Fitness on Rockbridge Road in Stone Mountain.

Witnesses of these incidents reported seeing a black male suspect enter all the vehicles and a black female driver. The suspects may be driving a grey SUV, possibly a Volvo.

According to police, several cases had fraudulent transaction card activity occurred shortly after the vehicles were broken into. Most of the fraudulent transactions occurred at the Chevron gas station located on Everson Road in Snellville and at the Best Buy on Pleasant Hill Road in Duluth.

In the transaction at the Best Buy, a woman is seen on surveillance cameras entering the business and purchasing an Apple MacBook Pro. Though it is unclear if she is related to the entering auto thefts, police would like to identify her and determine her level of involvement in the crimes.

Police are advising gym patrons to either leave valuables at home or secure them in a locker at the gym with a durable padlock.
